Description
Description
This wonderfully expressive group comprises three genuine vintage Beswick England pug dog figurines in two sizes and contrasting matt and gloss finishes.
The set includes two large examples of Beswick model 1997, known as “Ch. Cutmil Cupie.” One has a soft matt finish with a striking black face, while the other has a traditional gloss finish with finely hand-painted facial markings. Completing the group is the smaller gloss model 1998 pug.
Designed by renowned Beswick modeller Arthur Gredington, the large model captures the characteristic stocky body, curled tail, facial folds and endearing expression of the pug breed. Model 1997 was produced from approximately 1965 until 1982.
Displaying the three figures together creates a particularly appealing arrangement. The differences in size, colouring and finish make this a more interesting collection than three identical examples.
All three figures bear Beswick England factory markings. The two large pugs each measure approximately 12 cm long × 6 cm wide × 11 cm high. The smaller example measures approximately 7 × 3.5 × 7 cm. Their combined unpacked weight is approximately 393 grams.
The figurines remain in great to excellent vintage condition. No chips, cracks or repairs have been identified. Minor age-related rubbing and marks are present beneath the feet, consistent with careful display and handling.
An engaging vintage group for collectors of Beswick animals, English pottery, pedigree dog figurines or pug memorabilia.
