Description

This delightful collection comprises three genuine vintage Beswick England pug dog figurines in two sizes and contrasting matt and gloss finishes.

The group includes two large examples of Beswick model 1997, known as Ch. Cutmil Cupie. One has a traditional gloss finish with strongly defined black facial wrinkles, while the second has a soft matt finish with a darker face and gently shaded cream body.

Completing the group is the smaller gloss Beswick pug, model 1998. The differences in size, finish and facial decoration create a particularly engaging display when the three figures are arranged together.

Designed by respected Beswick modeller Arthur Gredington, these figures capture the pug breed’s compact body, short muzzle, expressive wrinkles and tightly curled tail.

The large Ch. Cutmil Cupie model 1997 was issued from approximately 1965 until 1982. The smaller model 1998 was issued from approximately 1966 until 1990.

All three figures carry Beswick England factory markings. The Ch. Cutmil Cupie name appears beneath the two large figures and identifies the champion pug associated with the original design. The model numbers identify the designs and should not be confused with production years.

This particular group has especially strong facial decoration. The gloss figures display more heavily defined black wrinkle lines, giving them noticeably expressive faces. These differences are best understood as individual variations in Beswick’s hand-applied decoration rather than a separate colourway.

The two large pugs each measure approximately 12 cm long × 6 cm wide × 11 cm high. The smaller pug measures approximately 7 cm long × 3.5 cm wide × 7 cm high. Their combined unpacked weight is approximately 524 grams.

The three figurines remain in great to excellent vintage condition. No chips, cracks or repairs have been identified. There is light age-related rubbing and movement wear beneath the feet, consistent with careful handling and display. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the condition description.

A charming matched group for collectors of vintage Beswick animals, English pottery, pedigree dog figurines or pug memorabilia.
