Vintage Martin Boyd Pottery STC Advertising Ashtray

This unusual vintage Australian pottery ashtray was produced by Martin Boyd Pottery and decorated with the historic STC emblem of Standard Telephones & Cables.

The piece has a low, rounded form with a glossy black exterior and a contrasting cream-glazed interior. A bold red STC monogram occupies the centre, enclosed within a hand-painted circular border. Two shaped rests are incorporated into the rim.

The underside is finished in glossy black glaze and bears the handwritten Martin Boyd signature.

Martin Boyd Pottery produced a diverse range of decorative and domestic ceramics during the mid-twentieth century. While small dishes and ashtrays are encountered periodically, commissioned or promotional pieces bearing Australian corporate insignia are considerably less common.

Condition

Vintage pre-owned condition with age-related crazing, minor surface wear and glaze irregularities consistent with age and original use. The red STC emblem remains clearly visible, and the Martin Boyd signature is present beneath.
