A striking 1937 Paragon coronation group comprising a gilt lion-handled loving cup, matching cup and saucer, and vintage King George VI and Queen Elizabeth tapestry cushion. Clearly marked Paragon, Made in England, with Alfred B. Pearce & Co. retailer’s marks.

Description

This decorative Paragon China group commemorates the coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth at Westminster Abbey on 12 May 1937.

It brings together a two-handled loving cup, a smaller matching cup and saucer, and a vintage tapestry cushion depicting the royal couple.

Both cups feature sculptural gilt lion handles, colourful heraldic decoration and portraits of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth.

The three porcelain pieces carry commemorative Paragon backstamps, Made in England inscriptions and the retailer’s mark of Alfred B. Pearce & Co., 39 Ludgate Hill, London.

The group has strong display appeal and is particularly suited to collectors of Paragon China, British royal memorabilia and historic coronation souvenirs.

The loving cup measures approximately 14 Ɨ 9 Ɨ 8 cm.

The cup and saucer measure approximately 14 Ɨ 14 Ɨ 8 cm.

The tapestry cushion measures approximately 40 Ɨ 40 Ɨ 13 cm.

Total unpacked weight is approximately 850 g.

Condition

Good vintage condition overall. One cup has slight internal staining, and the tapestry cushion has one very small moth hole. Light age-related wear is visible.

The cushion is included as a complementary vintage royal commemorative piece. Its manufacturer and exact production date have not been confirmed.
