Antique Fenton Vintage Grape Black Amethyst Carnival Glass Bonbon Dish
This striking antique two-handled carnival glass bonbon dish is attributed to the Fenton Art Glass Company and dates from the early twentieth century.
The interior displays Fentonās Vintage pattern, featuring moulded grape clusters, leaves and trailing vines. The exterior has a finely detailed basketweave pattern, while the shaped rim and two sweeping handles give the dish an especially decorative form.
The base glass is extremely dark amethyst and appears black under ordinary lighting. Carnival glass collectors commonly describe this colour as black amethyst. The basketweave exterior displays prominent silver iridescence, while the interior reflects rich purple, blue, gold and bronze tones that change with the angle and strength of the light.
Fenton was one of Americaās leading carnival glass manufacturers. Early Fenton carnival glass was generally unmarked, so recognised patterns, colours, shapes and moulded details are important to identification.
