A striking antique pedestal compote attributed to Dugan Glass Company in the Coin Spot pattern. Its deep black-amethyst glass displays vivid blue, green, gold, copper and purple iridescence beneath a dramatic ruffled rim.

Antique Dugan Coin Spot Black Amethyst Carnival Glass Pedestal Compote Bowl

A striking early twentieth-century carnival glass pedestal compote attributed to the Dugan Glass Company of Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA. The distinctive moulded design is identified as Dugan’s Coin Spot pattern, which is also sometimes described by collectors as Thumbprint.

Formed from exceptionally deep amethyst glass, the bowl appears almost black under ordinary lighting. When illuminated, its iridescent surface reveals vivid shifting shades of blue, green, gold, copper, red and purple.

The bowl features broad radiating panels decorated with graduated oval coin spots. Its deeply ruffled rim creates an attractive flowing profile, while the short moulded stem and substantial circular pedestal foot complete the classic compote form.

Dugan Glass Company produced carnival glass during the early twentieth century. Although this example is unmarked, its panelled body, graduated Coin Spot decoration, moulded stem, circular foot and ruffled rim correspond closely with documented Dugan examples. We attribute it to Dugan Glass Company with approximately 95% confidence.

This antique carnival glass compote is in excellent condition. It has been carefully inspected, with no chips, cracks, fleabites or repairs detected. The glass retains its attractive multicoloured iridescent finish.
