Description

Vintage Stanley No. 144 12-Inch Ratchet Bit Brace

This genuine vintage Stanley No. 144 ratchet bit brace is a traditional hand-powered woodworking tool designed for drilling timber with compatible brace and auger bits.

The brace has a 12-inch sweep, providing useful leverage and torque when drilling by hand. Its ratchet mechanism also allows the tool to be operated in restricted spaces where the frame cannot complete a full rotation.

The steel frame is clearly stamped STANLEY and No. 144 – 12 IN. It retains its rotating wooden centre handle and rounded wooden top pressure pad.

Tested and Working

This tool has been inspected and function tested before listing.

  • Ratchet mechanism operates correctly
  • Chuck opens and closes
  • Wooden centre handle rotates
  • Wooden top pressure pad rotates
  • Steel frame remains solid and serviceable

No drill or auger bits are included.

Condition

Good working vintage condition.

The steel frame displays surface wear, scratches, darkening, oxidation and workshop patina consistent with age and previous use.

The wooden components show expected wear, marking and colour variation. The tool has not been aggressively polished or refinished, allowing it to retain its authentic vintage character.
