Description

This vibrant signed Reg Preston Australian studio pottery plate features an expressive abstract composition in black, orange, red, soft pink and pale blue-white glaze.

The strong contrasting colours and fluid overlapping forms give this compact piece the visual impact of a much larger work. Its circular border frames the decoration beautifully, making it an especially effective display piece for a shelf, cabinet or grouped Australian pottery collection.

Measuring 18.5 centimetres in diameter, the plate features expressive decoration in which warm orange and red tones are beautifully balanced by cooler pale blue-white glaze against a deep black ground.

The underside carries Preston’s painted signature, providing clear identification and making the plate an appealing example of twentieth-century Australian studio ceramics.

Very good vintage condition with no chips, cracks or repairs observed. Minor surface and base wear may be present consistent with age and previous display. Natural variations in glaze colour, texture and application are characteristic of handmade and kiln-fired studio pottery.
