Description

Product description

This signed Reg Preston Australian studio pottery plate features a beautifully earthy abstract composition in warm brown, tan, ochre, beige and cream tones.

Its central decoration has a wonderfully spontaneous character. Irregular areas of dark mottled glaze interact with lighter flowing forms, creating a design that appears almost figurative while remaining distinctly abstract. Concentric bands around the border frame the composition and add visual depth.

Although relatively small, the plate has excellent display presence. The concentrated decoration, warm natural palette and richly varied glaze give it much of the individuality associated with Preston’s larger works while making it particularly easy to display in a cabinet, on a shelf or as part of a grouped Australian pottery collection.

The underside bears Preston’s painted signature, providing clear identification and making this an appealing example of twentieth-century Australian studio pottery.
