Description
Product description
Antique Japanese blue and white porcelain charger, dating to the late Meiji period, circa 1900.
This large 31 cm charger features an elaborate cobalt blue design with phoenix-style birds, flowering branches and foliage, surrounded by a densely patterned border with floral reserves. The decoration is executed beneath a glossy glaze, creating strong contrast between the deep cobalt blue and white porcelain body.
The reverse is also decorated in underglaze blue and carries a small impressed mark to the base.
A highly decorative example of Japanese blue and white porcelain, suitable for collectors of Meiji ceramics, Japanese porcelain, Asian decorative arts and antique chargers.
This antique Japanese blue and white porcelain charger displays beautifully, with a strong decorative presence that would enhance both a collection and an interior. Its generous 31 cm scale also makes it an excellent backdrop for displaying smaller ceramics, decorative objects and collectables.
