Vintage Ratchet Bit Brace Hand Drill
This vintage ratchet bit brace is a traditional manually operated drilling tool of the type once commonly used by carpenters, cabinetmakers and other tradespeople.
Constructed from metal with black-painted timber handles, the brace incorporates a geared ratchet mechanism and adjustable chuck. The ratchet arrangement was particularly useful when working in confined spaces because the operator did not need to make a complete rotation of the brace.
No manufacturer’s name or model number has been identified, and the tool is therefore offered as an unbranded vintage example rather than attributed to a particular maker.
The metal surfaces retain age-related oxidation, wear and areas of finish loss, while the timber handles show evidence of previous workshop use. This honest patina forms part of the character of an original working hand tool.
