PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

A substantial vintage Australian studio pottery pitcher jug made by Victorian potter Tom Schutte, featuring a rich brown glazed finish and a prominent side handle.

The jug has the individually crafted character associated with wheel-thrown studio pottery. Its generous proportions and earthy glaze make it suitable for display as a collectable Australian ceramic or as a decorative vessel in a mid-century, rustic or contemporary interior.

Tom Schutte produced pottery in Victoria from approximately 1972 until 1984. Working from his family home in Bulleen, Melbourne, Schutte formed his pottery on the wheel, while his wife, Janette, assisted with cleaning, glazing and firing the pieces. Their pottery was sold at the St Kilda Esplanade Craft Market and through stalls at Monash University, La Trobe University and Melbourne’s City Square.

The underside bears Schutte’s incised signature, identifying it as an authentic example of Tom Schutte’s Australian studio pottery.
