Gayle Russell – born Wonthaggi, Vic. Australia.
GAYLE RUSSELL , a naturally gifted artist. Noted for her realistic “wildlife” artwork, as well as her unique style of the Australian wilderness and wildlife in vibrant colours,(Auss1e Visions). Working m gouache, acrylic, pastel, 0il and Watercolour mediums.
Gayle has many major awards to her credit and achieving great accolade for her outstanding artwork.
In 1991, Gayle released four limited edition (500) prints, each signed, numbered and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity. These prints depict images of Kookaburras, Ringtail Possums, Feathertail Glider and Red-browed Finches, with new prints released in 1995, Crimson Rosellas and Rainbow Lorikeets.
Gayle had shown her natural artistic ability from an early age, winning a major award while still at primary school. Now Gayle is one of Australia’s leading wildlife artists, having just returned from an exhibition in the USA, and just finished three other major exhibitions late in 1995 including one at her home and studio, the Campaspe Gallery, one in Melbourne, another in Sydney. The love Gayle feels for our native creatures is very obvious in her artwork. Gayle’s original art is very sought after both Australia wide and Internationally, already being added to private collections in England, Japan, Canada, New Zealand and America.
Apart from her natural artistic gift, Gayle is also the publisher of a wide range of items depicting her work such as the Limited Edition Prints and also Greeting cards, etc. This alone is a success story in itself, slowly building GAYLE RUSSELL ARTWORKS to be a highly recognized, quality range of items featuring beautiful art. These are distributed throughout Australia with export markets expanding successfully.
Gayle’s artwork is highly regarded by major companies like John Sands for use on their quality calendars, etc. These have proved very popular for Sands, reproducing Gayle’s original work for 1994, 96,97 and now for 98 wildlife/bird calendars. Gayle was selected by the Aust. Wildlife Fund to be the artist for their’ 96 Koala stamp.
Ansett inflight magazine PANORAMA featured a story about Gayle and her art in 1994.
Two children’s educational books have been published on the “Kangaroo” and the “Sugar Glider” both depicting artwork by Gayle. These books rely heavily on this artwork to tell the story about these animals. These two books have already won awards.
Gayle is member of various art societies including the Victorian Artists Society, Wildlife Artists Society of Australasia, Guild of Realist Artists, etc., also many environmental societies such as Australian Wildlife Fund, Aust. Cons. Foundation, The Aust. Birdkeeper ,etc.
Being very close to. our unique wildlife and it’s fragile environment, Gayle donated $5000 worth of Limited Edition prints to the Australian Conservation Foundation. This is to help in raising people’s awareness of how beautiful our country really is, also to help preserve and protect it along with it’s natural inhabitants for future generations to enjoy.
This all further consolidates Gayle’s commitment to the world of art and in particular, our heritage – its unique wildlife and environment.
