Description
A Royal Copenhagen stoneware monkey figurine, model 20187, designed by Knud Kyhn. The seated monkey holds one hand to its face, with its other arm drawn across the body and its tail curled around the base.
The deep black and brown glaze catches warm amber highlights around the face, hands and feet, emphasising its compact sculptural form. A characterful addition to a Danish ceramics collection or a thoughtful gift for an animal-figurine collector.
The underside bears model number 20187, Denmark wording, the three blue waves and an incised KK monogram. The precise production year has not been established.
Knud Kyhn (1880–1969) was a Danish sculptor and ceramic designer noted for his animal figures. He began working for Royal Copenhagen in 1903 and also designed for Bing & Grøndahl. His stoneware animals combine closely observed poses with expressive modelling, making them a distinctive part of Danish ceramic collecting.
