Standing an impressive 22 cm high, this is an attractive and highly collectable example of Royal Copenhagen’s celebrated animal and bird porcelain. The finely observed form, expressive face and restrained hand-painted decoration give the owl excellent display presence.
Royal Copenhagen Barn Owl – Model 273
This porcelain Barn Owl was produced by Royal Copenhagen of Denmark and is Model 273, a design associated with Danish sculptor and modeller Christian Thomsen.
Royal Copenhagen became particularly renowned for its naturalistic animal and bird figurines, combining carefully modelled forms with understated underglaze colouring and fine hand-painted detail.
The owl is depicted standing upright on a white naturalistic base, with warm brown plumage, finely rendered feather detail and the distinctive pale heart-shaped facial disc characteristic of a barn owl.
Its relatively large 22 cm height makes this a particularly striking decorative piece and an appealing addition to a collection of Royal Copenhagen, Scandinavian porcelain, bird figurines or European ceramics.

The underside bears the Royal Copenhagen factory backstamp and identifying model marks.
The famous Royal Copenhagen three-wave mark represents Denmark’s three principal waterways: the Øresund, Great Belt and Little Belt, and has been associated with the factory since its foundation in 1775.
Condition
Very good vintage condition.
No chips, cracks or restoration observed.
