Description

A distinctive vintage Australian pottery candlestick / chamber stick by Remued, shape 148, displaying the organic form and richly varied glazing associated with this important Melbourne pottery.

The piece has a broad circular base rising to a central candle socket, with a small applied side handle that gives it the traditional chamber-stick form. The glaze combines soft green with warm brown, amber and darker tones, creating attractive variation across the surface and emphasizing the hand-finished character of the piece.

Remued pottery was produced in Melbourne by the **Premier Pottery Preston**, and is today widely collected for its sculptural forms, experimental glazes and distinctive contribution to twentieth-century Australian ceramics.

This compact example is particularly appealing as both a functional-form object and a decorative piece of Australian art pottery.

Condition

Good vintage condition overall. There is professional restoration around the rim of the candlestick, possibly addressing very small flea bites or minor edge damage consistent with normal use of a piece of this type.

When running a finger around the rim, the edge feels slightly uneven and bumpy rather than completely smooth. This appears largely consistent with the original hand-finished character of the candlestick, although the restored areas contribute to some of that irregularity.

As the rim is a vulnerable working edge, minor historic wear or damage in this area would not be unusual. The restoration is disclosed for accuracy and transparency.

Please refer carefully to the photographs, which form an important part of the condition description.
