A complete six-piece 1930s Japanese Bluebell Ware graduating kitchen canister set, comprising Flour, Sugar, Rice, Tea, Sago and Coffee canisters, each with its matching ceramic lid.

Finished in rich cobalt blue with cream bands and black lettering, this striking vintage set has strong decorative appeal and is particularly desirable as a complete graduating group.

Description

A striking and highly decorative six-piece graduating kitchen canister set by Bluebell Ware, Japan, dating to approximately the 1930s.

Finished in a rich cobalt blue glaze with contrasting cream bands and bold black lettering, the set comprises six individually labelled canisters for Flour, Sugar, Rice, Tea, Sago and Coffee. Each canister retains its matching ceramic lid with rounded knob handle.

The graduating proportions give the set an especially attractive architectural quality when displayed together, with the largest Flour canister standing approximately 25 cm high.

Produced in Japan, Bluebell Ware kitchen ceramics are representative of the colourful domestic wares exported during the early twentieth century. Complete graduating sets such as this are particularly appealing because the individual pieces were practical household objects and are now often encountered separately or with missing or mismatched lids.

The strong cobalt blue and cream colour combination gives this set considerable decorative presence and makes it well suited to a vintage kitchen, pantry display, Art Deco-inspired interior or collection of early Japanese export ceramics and kitchenalia.
