Sunlight Breaking Through is an atmospheric Australian landscape by renowned artist Kenneth Jack, depicting the historic township of Tilba in New South Wales beneath a dramatic mountain range.
The composition captures the character of the settlement through its winding road, traditional buildings, changing elevation and mist-covered mountains. Jack’s carefully balanced use of light, colour and architectural detail gives the scene a strong sense of depth and place.
This is an authorised limited-edition collotype fine art print rather than an original watercolour or painting. Kenneth Jack personally signed and dated the work “82” in pencil on the lower margin. The original Franklin Gallery Certificate of Authenticity remains attached to the reverse.
A collotype is a high-quality photographic printing process valued for its ability to reproduce subtle colour, tonal variation and fine detail. Signed Franklin Gallery collotypes allowed collectors to acquire carefully produced reproductions of selected Kenneth Jack paintings, authenticated by the artist’s original pencil signature.

ABOUT KENNETH JACK
Kenneth Jack was an important Australian landscape artist, watercolourist, draughtsman, painter and printmaker whose career extended across approximately six decades.
He became particularly recognised for his atmospheric interpretations of Australian country towns, historic buildings, mining settlements, rural landscapes, waterways and coastal environments. Jack was elected to the Royal Watercolour Society in 1977 and received an MBE in 1982 and appointment as a Member of the Order of Australia in 1987.
CONDITION
The signed collotype presents in great vintage condition. The image remains visually attractive, with no significant fading, foxing or water damage observed.
The frame and mount present well, with minor age-related wear consistent with previous display. The Franklin Gallery certificate remains attached to the reverse. Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the condition description.

The framed artwork will be protected with foam and packed in a purpose-made reinforced cardboard picture box. A signature will be required upon delivery for additional security.

Kenneth Jack AM MBE RWS (Australian 1924 – 2006) Bio
Kenneth Jack AM MBE RWS (5 October 1924 – 10 June 2006) was born in the suburbs of Melbourne on October 5 1924 The son of a commercial artist, Kenneth was something of a child prodigy, and he was 13 when he won his first art prize at the Melbourne Royal Show In his final year at Melbourne High School he gained the highest marks for drawing in the state of Victoria Kenneth was an artist who specialised in painting the images of an almost forgotten outback life, old mine workings, abandoned ghost towns, decaying farm buildings with a masterly approach to technique across many mediums and a career spanning six decades In 1950 he obtained his final teacher’s diploma with a thesis “On the Drawing of Architecture” That same year he went on to hold his first one-man exhibition at the Bookshelf Library at Hobart Still only 26, he was already well-known in Melbourne, having won several prizes and been published in the Australian National Journal Kenneth became a professional painter at the age of 39 after giving up his job as senior instructor at the Caulfield Institute of Technology Kenneth’s artistic influences came from such artists as Russell Drysdale, Rupert Bunny, William Dobell, Douglas Dundas, Noel Counihan, Donald Friend and Arthur Streeton Overseas influences included Rembrandt and Turner (both favourites) John Piper, Graham Sutherland, John Cotman and Cezanne In 1977 he was elected to The Royal Watercolour Society and in 1982 was awarded the MBE and the Order of Australia (AM) followed in 1987 Kenneth continued as a prolific painter right up to his passing in June 2006

The Collotype printing process is a 150 years old technique which was invented specifically to reproduce photographs. This technique is superior in terms of fine detail and nuance; hence it is suitable for use in fine art printing. Collotype is also known for its unique ability to reproduce halftone originals (either a photo or a drawing) without using a screen. The lifespan of a collotype print can last at least 100 years. Although the collotype method is an old printing process, the output quality is superior to even modern printing. “If you compare collotype with today’s digital print, you compare a concert grand piano with a keyboard”
