Description
A striking vintage marigold carnival glass vase identified as Crown Crystal’s Melon Rib design, commonly called a beehive vase.
Its broad rounded shoulders, short flared neck and graduated horizontal ribs give it a strong sculptural presence. Warm orange-gold glass catches the light with shifting pink, copper and rainbow-like reflections, bringing colour and character to a shelf, sideboard or display cabinet.
An attractive addition to an Australian glass collection, it would also make a thoughtful gift for someone who enjoys distinctive vintage decorative objects.
Crown Crystal and Australian glass
Crown Crystal Glass was formed in Sydney in 1926 through the amalgamation of Australian Crystal Glass and Crown Glass Works. Its output forms an important part of Australia’s domestic glassmaking history. Research into historical advertisements documents the company’s Melon Rib lustre-glass range, connecting these decorative forms with Australian design and manufacture.

This vase is unmarked. It was catalogued as an Australian Crown Crystal marigold carnival glass beehive vase. The identification is supported by comparison with the documented Melon Rib family; its exact production date is not established.
