Military Collectables

Explore a growing collection of Australian and international military collectables, including military books, medals, badges, ceramics, field equipment, wartime correspondence, photographs, ephemera and commemorative objects.

Military collectables preserve history in many forms, ranging from officially issued equipment and service material to personal objects that record the experiences of individual servicemen and women.

The collection may include material associated with the First World War, Second World War and later periods, with particular interest in Australian military history and objects that offer opportunities for further research.
Military books and unit histories can provide detailed accounts of campaigns, battalions and individual actions, while letters, photographs and personal documents can preserve a much more intimate record of wartime experience.

Military ceramics, medals, badges, insignia, field tools and equipment can also provide valuable evidence through maker marks, military acceptance marks, dates, unit markings and other identifying features.

Where possible, items are individually researched to establish their maker, period, military association and historical context.
Condition, originality and provenance are important considerations when collecting military material. Age-related wear, service use, inscriptions and original markings can form part of an object’s history and are carefully recorded where relevant.
