Philip Luton (Australian 20th Century) Bio
Philip Alan Luton – born in Sydney on 25 December 1926. Died in Melbourne 1996, aged 69.
Moved from Sydney to Melbourne in 1941 and attended Melbourne High School, before studying Art at Swinburne Technical College.
A member of the Victorian Artists’ Society, his work was a regular part of group exhibitions. His first solo show was held at the Tasmanian Tourist Bureau Gallery in 1966 and was an outstanding success. Luton’s work is represented at the Sale Regional Arts Centre, and numerous private collections in Australia, USA, UK, France, Israel, and Hong Kong, including those of Sir William Oliver and Sir Arthur Warner. His work appears in all three editions of Australian Artists Today, compiled by artist Graeme Norris and featuring the works of (first edition printed April 1974).
