In 1971 Henk commenced the work for which he is best known the “Panorama Guth” the format of which he took from a seascape Panorama Mesdag in The Hague Holland The panorama as completed was a realistic Central Australian outback scene painted on 33 pieces of canvas six metres high arrayed as a continuous circle of 20 metres in diameter the centre of which was a raised viewing platform

Bio Henk Guth (Dutch/Australian 1921-2003)

Henk was born in Arnhem Netherlands and studied at the Arnhem Academy of Art and Design from 1938 to 1942 he then moved to Amsterdam to work as an artist and in 1960 Henk  migrated to Australia Henk opened an Art Gallery named The Panorama Guth in Alice Springs with its unusual castle-like appearance it specializing in works and artifacts of Indigenous Australians as well as his own works and those of other Australian artists  The Panorama Guth was officially opened by Prime Minister Gough Whitlam on November 1975 Henk painted with the help of fellow Dutch artist Frits Pieters a 360 degree painting of the central Australian landscape within the Gallery which you could view via a staircase within the gallery but unfortunately lost in fire that destroyed the building in 2005 Henk works are represented in galleries and collections throughout Australia and Europe
