Anne Hall (Australian 1945-) Bio

Born in Melbourne in 1945 Anne Hall studied at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology Influenced by John Perceval (a relationship  of 10yrs) Anne’s first solo exhibition was at the South Yarra Gallery in Melbourne to high praise in 1968 in the 1960’s and 1970’s alongside Joy Hester and Mirka Mora Anne Hall forged a compelling female voice in the male dominated world of Australian modernism and Figurative Expressionism In 1975 a retrospective of her work was mounted at Avant Galleries Melbourne A large exhibition of Hall’s drawings paintings and ceramics was held at the Powell Street Gallery in 1981 Art Critics describing Anne’s work as “highly imaginative and strong in observation of character and understanding of distortion” and “heraldic decorativeness” a biographer credited Anne as the “creative partner” of the John Percival 1967 work “Veronica and the Conspirators” Anne is the last surviving member of the Antipodean Expressionist Movement Anne has been collected by The National Gallery of Australia the Ian Potter Museum and the Geelong Gallery Anne has exhibited widely in Melbourne Sydney Canberra and Adelaide.
