Anthony Breslin Bio

Anthony Breslin (Australian)

Anthony Breslin is a Melbourne based artist who has exhibited over 50 solo exhibitions. His recent exhibition contained 23 artworks telling the story of his battle with cancer, many of them being produced during treatment in his hospital room. His career spanning over 25 years has taken interest from the national and international art world.

In 2009 Anthony began building his art gallery and café “The Breslin Gallery & Café”, which took three years to complete, Once completed it became a art hub for Carnegie and Melbourne, accomplishing a dream he had held for many years. The gallery flourished until Anthony sold the building in 2016 after being diagnosed.

He was inspired by many tribal cultures from around the world for there symbols, rituals and performance. It lead to his unique mixed style of modernism, cubism and illustration. His graphic works celebrate the myriad elements of contemporary urban life.

Quote From Anthony During His interview With the Herald Sun.

“My work aims to be a form of dazzling, seductive, theatre of the absurd, with an infinite array of possibilities pertaining to both what it is and what it can be. I am inspired by everything from the absurd-ist plays of Eugene Ionesco to tribal masks, rock pools, colour philosophy, found objects, topography, land & underwater seascapes, and the intense beauty of a life lived with the finite conditions of mortality. Great evocative theatre can be an experience that encapsulates the senses and seizes the heart and this is a goal I set out to achieve with both my painting/drawing work and my own performance/productions. My story telling is intended to inspire story making within the imagination of the viewer.

His works are  held in many public and private collections in Australia, China, Austria, Switzerland, Thailand, Vietnam and Zimbabwe.
