Thomas Gleghorn (British/Australian 1925-)
Thomas Gleghorn was born in England 1925, His family moved to Warner’s Bay NSW Australia three years later. Thomas had an interest in art since a young age, After playing with paints for a while he took an interest in the Newcastle art competition which was offering a prize of art supplies for the winner. He used paints from around his house and entered the competition, fortunately for him the work won the prize.
Since then Tomas has exhibited works at 34 solo exhibitions, won over 30 art awards in including a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM)
He is mostly known for his unique abstract style in his work but has also worked with many different mediums including linocut and Lithographs, Thomas has worked as artist designer for Grace Bros, then for Farmers Sydney, director of Blaxland Galleries, in 1960 taught at the National Art School, also was Head of Canberra Art School and the senior lecturer at Bedford Park Teachers College.
