Description

This beautifully modelled Royal Doulton figurine has a wonderfully imaginative presence, portraying a scholarly wizard studying his open book with an owl perched upon his shoulder and an attentive black cat at his feet. Its rich blue, black and natural-toned glazes, expressive character and finely observed details make it an impressive display piece for a Royal Doulton collection, fantasy-themed interior or distinctive cabinet display.

Royal Doulton The Wizard HN 2877

The Wizard was modelled by Royal Doulton artist Alan Maslankowski and introduced around 1978–1979. The design remained in production until 2006 and has become one of Royal Doulton’s most recognisable fantasy-themed figurines.

The bearded wizard wears a tall glossy black hat and flowing blue robes while carefully studying an open book. An owl rests upon his shoulder, while a black cat watches from beside his feet. These accompanying animals, the wizard’s expressive features and the richly glazed surfaces give the figure considerable character when viewed from every angle.

The underside carries the printed Royal Doulton backstamp, model number HN 2877, title The Wizard, Alan Maslankowski’s facsimile signature and the 1978 model copyright date. The copyright date relates to the original design and does not necessarily establish the precise year in which this individual example was manufactured.
