We are excited to offer a vintage original AMB Pottery Bowl untitled “Outback Farmer,” a true masterpiece crafted at AMB Pottery and decorated by the talented John Howley. This unique piece, measuring 31cm x 31cm x 6.4cm and weighing 1.54kg, is a collector’s dream. Hand-incised with the signature ‘Arthur Merric Boyd’ on the verso and signed ‘J Howley’ on the lower right, it bears the authentic touch of these renowned artists.

Biography: John Richard Howley (1931- )

John Howley began his artistic journey in 1955, collaborating with notable artists like John Perceval and Arthur Merric Boyd at the AMB Pottery in Melbourne. His work on this bowl highlights his exceptional skill and unique perspective, depicting life in the Australian outback with remarkable detail and emotion.

As the Boyd family’s business flourished, they collaborated with a host of talented artists and friends, including Neil Douglas, Charles Blackman, Jean Langley, Tim and Betty Burstall, John Howley, and John Yule. This collective effort fostered a significant artistic movement in Australia, producing masterpieces that remain highly sought after by collectors worldwide.

Bio

AMB started in 1944 when Arthur Boyd John Perceval and Peter Herbst purchased Hatton Beck’s pottery “Altamira” in Murrumbeena Victoria and renamed it the Arthur Merric Boyd (AMB) Pottery.
