Description
A vintage clear glass soft-drink bottle associated with Marchant & Co., Melbourne, featuring an embossed wheel trademark, Registered Australia wording and the company’s ownership notice.
Its long neck, raised lettering and moulded base marks make it an appealing addition to a collection of Australian bottles or vintage advertising. It also offers a small, tangible connection with Melbourne’s manufacturing and everyday social history.
The base carries the code M690 and a glassmaker’s monogram. A closely matching documented example suggests a probable 1930s–1940s date, although an exact manufacturing year has not been established.
About Marchant & Co.
George Marchant began manufacturing aerated drinks in Brisbane in 1886. The business expanded into other Australian cities, including Melbourne, where its factory operated in Richmond. Surviving embossed bottles record the company’s branding and its place in Australia’s soft-drink industry.
