Description
This signed Hatton Beck studio pottery jug brings together a sculptural form, a heavily textured surface and flowing earthy glazes. Olive green, tan and brown tones are enlivened by burgundy/red accents, with vertical glaze runs and raised surface details creating interest around the body.
The jug has a rounded lower body, tapering neck, curved loop handle and an irregular rim with a pouring spout. Its unglazed base is incised with Hatton Beck’s signature.
Hatton Beck was an Australian potter associated with Merric Boyd and the wider Boyd family circle. This jug is signed Hatton Beck; it is not attributed to Lucy Boyd Beck, and its exact production date is unknown.
A distinctive addition to an Australian pottery collection or a display of expressive studio ceramics.
