Bio

PASQUALE GIARDINO (Australian 1961-) Bio

Pasquale Giardino is a Melbourne artist and painter who was one of the founding members of the ROAR Art Group located in a former shoe factory in Brunswick Street Fitzroy, in the early 1980s.

The group idea was to compete against the hard-edged abstraction, minimalism and conceptualism of the times, plus to also showcase local young artists from any culture, the members included Sarah Faulkner, Jill Noble, Andrew Ferguson, Karan Hayman, Mark Howson, Mike Nicholls, Pasquale Giardino, Peter Ferguson, Richard Birmingham, Judi Singleton, Margaret McNamara and David Larwill. In 2011 the group meet up at the Blackman Hotel for the 30th anniversary of the group being formed.

His work is a celebration of the banal, infused with ancient mythology, colour, naivete, and a sense of humour.

Giardino studied at the Prahran Institute from 1981-1982. His work is held at the National Gallery of Australia, National Gallery of Victoria, and many regional and state collections.
