About Arthur Boyd (1920–1999)

Arthur Boyd (1920–1999) was one of Australia’s most celebrated modern artists and a central figure of the Boyd artistic dynasty.

Raised within the creative environment of the Boyd family’s Murrumbeena studio, he developed a distinctive artistic language spanning painting, ceramics, drawing, printmaking and tapestry.

Internationally recognised for his expressive figurative works, biblical narratives and Australian landscapes, Boyd became a founding member of the Antipodeans in 1959 before later settling in England and eventually returning to the Shoalhaven region of New South Wales.

His work is represented in every major Australian public collection and continues to be regarded as one of the defining achievements of Australian twentieth-century art.
