Max Middleton (Australian 1922-2013) Bio
Born in Victoria in 1922 studied at the National Gallery School Melbourne under William Rowell as well as studying privately with Septimus Power who was both a mentor and a friend who strongly influenced Max’s career.
In the early 1950s he painted for two years in Europe and studied in London and Paris Max an En plein air painter (French for the act of painting outdoors) worked on capturing the effects of light painting landscapes, rural scenes, livestock musters, sheep droving, working Clydesdales, coastal scenes as well as the human figure in the unique Australian light.
