Jean De La Fontinelle (France 1900-1974) Bio
Jean de La Fontinelle is the son of the painter René de La Fontinelle (1853-1908) and Marguerite Ortmans (1865-1927) daughter of the painter François Auguste Ortmans (1826-1884) Jean is a student of the painter H Armand Delille Jean also follows the courses of the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris in the studio of Lucien Simon also Jean meets the painters Paul Jouve and André Margat and the sculptors Charles Artus Raymond Bigot and François Pompon Jean befriends with Roger Godchaux Henri Valette Jean an animal painter he draws and paints on the spot notably at the Jardin des Plantes in Paris and the Edinburgh Zoo in Scotland He also regularly paints the towns and ports of Brittany Jean was also animal illustrator of many publications from 1929 to 1960 In 1920 Jean sets up the Faëncerie d’Art in Anthony (Paris) with Louis Dage specializing in the animal sculpture the animal shapes of La De Fontinelle are simple and sweet He has published many ceramic subjects his bronze works are rarer During a trip to New Caledonia in 1968-1969 he brought back drawings and paintings made during his stopovers particularly in Ceylon Singapore and Tahiti and New Caledonia

He exhibited in 1929 to the “Exposition des Artistes Animaliers” in Paris and from 1925 to 1972 he exhibited at the Salon of French Artists in Paris from 1962 to 1969 in Edinburgh Glasgow and North Berwick in Scotland In 1969 he exhibited at the museum of Noumea (New Caledonia)
