How to Centre Clay On The Wheel!!

Please excuse the longer video today, I struggled to get enough information for you in such a small window of video, but I hope it helps! 👌

Getting clay centre on the wheel head is no small task, but once you get the hang of it, it becomes one of the quickest and easiest procedures of wheel throwing

Few things I’ll mention that I could not include in the video:

1: Throw The Clay Onto The Head Centre:

When you initially throw the piece of clay onto the wheel head, if it is not centre, do not push the clay over to the side to make it centre. This will put a kink in the clay and will require you to cone the clay multiple times to get that kink out, you’re better off pulling the clay off the head and throwing it down again

2: Push The Edges Of The Clay Down Onto The Wheel Head:

Once you have thrown your piece of clay onto the wheel head, you want to push the corners of the clay onto the bat. You do this before you start conning or centreing. This will help when you begin spinning the wheel as the clay will already have a good bond the bat. If you look at the reel closely or my other reels you will see what I mean 😊

3: Don’t Be Disheartened:

Wheel throwing is not easy. If it was, everyone would be doing it on the street corner 😆, it takes time and patience and perseverance as well. What may seem impossible now will be a walk in the park in the future. If it all you feel like you can’t do it. Keep trying! You can!!

Hope you enjoyed this post and as always, Happy Potting! 🥳

We will be back tomorrow with some more tips and ideas ❤️
