Create an opening in the center of the clay to form the cup. Gradually widen the opening while applying gentle pressure to lift the walls. Control the thickness of the walls as you pull them up to the desired height.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pay special attention to the lip of the cup. Use your fingers or tools to shape it to your desired style, whether it\u2019s flared, curved, or straight. Also pay attention to smoothing off the lip as well, you want your lips to be comfortable when drinking from it. Allow the cup to dry to a \u201cleather-hard\u201d stage. It should be firm but still slightly flexible. This usually takes a few hours to a day, depending on the clay and environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Part 2 Throwing a ceramic cup and attaching a pulled handle (see comments) \ud83e\udd17#wheelthrowing #pottery\" width=\"580\" height=\"326\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/d_Y1MJmCuto?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>While the cup is drying, create or prepare the handle. Ensure it\u2019s the right size and shape for the cup. When both the cup and handle are at a similar moisture level (leather-hard), score the areas where you\u2019ll attach the handle. Use a serrated rib or a needle tool to create shallow, cross-hatched marks. Then apply slip to both the scored areas on the cup and the handle. This acts as a bonding agent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gently press the handle onto the scored and slipped area of the cup. Ensure it\u2019s securely attached and properly aligned with the cup\u2019s body. Use a wet finger or a tool to smooth and blend the seams where the handle attaches to the cup. This creates a seamless and visually pleasing connection. Allow the cup to dry slowly to avoid cracking. Cover it with a plastic bag to control the drying rate and prevent the handle from cracking!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once again hope you enjoyed this post and as always Happy Potting!!!
