(Caption in comments) \ud83d\ude0a\ud83d\ude0a #wheelthrowing #pottery #clay\" width=\"580\" height=\"326\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/nx62Ga5ApQY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Well for todays video Im showing you how I make this \u201cFlop Pot\u201d as I like to call it \ud83d\ude04, This is only the second one I have made so far but I\u2019ll definitely be doing more soon, this natural design is something i really enjoy making and i think it gives some great shapes and shadows, something that can command a mantle piece or display cupboard&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I have also included some information in the below \ud83e\udd17<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To give a good base to throw your pot with<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Preparing the Wheel and Clay:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Start with a clean wheel head.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> Select a lump of clay and wedge it to eliminate air pockets and ensure even consistency.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Place the clay in the centre of the wheel head, gently patting it down to anchor it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>2. Centering the Clay:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Begin by turning the wheel on at a slow speed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rest your hands on the clay, applying even pressure from the top and sides. Use the palm\/wrist of your hands for greater control.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>As the wheel spins, you may feel resistance or wobbling. Adjust your hand positions to counteract this, gently guiding the clay towards the centre.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Focus on creating a symmetrical cone shape. Keep your movements gradual and steady.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Increase the wheel speed once you feel the clay becoming more centred. Continue applying pressure to ensure complete centering.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>3. Opening Up the Base:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>With the clay centred, wet your hands and the surface of the clay slightly.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use your thumbs to create a shallow depression in the centre of the clay. Start at the very centre and work outward, maintaining an even thickness.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Gradually increase the pressure and width of the depression, forming the base of your pot.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be mindful of the pressure applied and the depth of the base. This one I was very surprised to to get finished as it collapsed a little more then i wanted to haha<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But i did get it into a nice shape again, we are still waiting to for some of the earlier ones to dry so we can get the first one glazed!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I have also included some information in the below \ud83e\udd17<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1. Get that clay centre: Getting the clay centre on your wheel head is especially important for when throwing bowls. As clay that is not centre will cause problems when trying to bring the walls up and get that unique bowl shape. Even though we are wanting this to collapse anyway, its a good thing to have a properly centred base to get the height of the bowl first<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2. When your wanting the pot to collapse, don\u2019t be scared of pushing the clay in all different ways, push it outwards, push it unevenly, anything to get it to collapse, Have some fun too! This is a great way to let your creative side come through and to have some fun on the wheel, this will also get your skills in \u201cclay feel\u201d sharpened too, learning about the tipping point for when a clay wall will collapse is a handy tool for when your throwing unusual shapes&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once again hope you enjoyed this post and Happy Potting!
