Are very disappointing results to see, especially when you have worked hard for a particular pot. But fear not! There is always a solution to every problem&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Few things I\u2019ll mention that I could not include in the video:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1: Compression and Thickness of Base:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both the compressing of the base and checking thickness should be done BEFORE you begin to throw the walls up, I generally use a pottery needle to check the thickness (around a 1cm of thickness is what I look for) Sometimes a little thicker if i want to carve a heavy foot ring into the base once leather hard, after i check the thickness ill use the long side of my thumb to compress the base and bring the corners of the base to as close to a 90degree angle as I can<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2: Slow Down the Drying Time:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Proper drying techniques are crucial in pottery to ensure that the clay piece maintains its structural integrity and minimizes the risk of cracking or deforming, slowing down the drying process has been one of the biggest factors in minimising cracks. By allowing the pot to dry slowly, you give the moisture within the clay a chance to evaporate at a controlled pace. This gradual drying process helps to equalize the moisture content throughout the piece, preventing the walls from drying out too quickly and placing excessive stress on the base. Additionally, slower drying allows any remaining water trapped within the clay body to escape gently, minimizing the risk of internal stresses that can cause cracking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We have all been there where our favourite piece now has a crack, its never fun but doesn\u2019t mean its not fixable.
