Use small lumps of fresh clay to anchor it securely onto the batt. This ensures stability and prevents the piece from shifting during trimming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2. **Trim the Sides**: Start by using a flat trimming tool to carefully trim the sides of the base. Work slowly and steadily, removing excess clay and refining the shape. This step helps to balance the piece and prepare it for the next stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3. **Create a Foot Ring**: Move to the centre of the base and carve out a shallow area, leaving a raised foot ring around the edge. The foot ring adds stability and gives your piece a refined, professional finish. Use a loop tool for precision and control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4. **Wait for Leather-Hard Stage**: Ensure your piece is at the leather-hard stage before trimming. If the walls are too soft, the vase or bowl may collapse during the process. Leather-hard clay is firm yet carveable, making it ideal for trimming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>5. **Helpful Tips**:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; Keep your trimming tools sharp for cleaner cuts and smoother finishes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; Rotate the wheel at a moderate speed to maintain control and avoid uneven trimming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; Apply gentle, consistent pressure to prevent chipping or damaging the piece.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211; Regularly check the symmetry and balance of your piece as you trim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trimming can transform a simple pot into a beautifully finished piece of art.
