The first step is coning and centring on the wheel head \u2013 a crucial process that establishes the foundation for the pot. Use your hands to almost squeeze the clay towards the centre of the batt, this will automatically force the clay to rise up. You then place your hand on top and begin to force the clay to its original position again<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Repeat the coning and centring three times to ensure optimal alignment. Use your thumbs to form the base, preparing the walls for elevation with the throwing sponge. Before this stage, it\u2019s essential to check the thickness of the base so you can carve a footprint later on \ud83d\ude0a<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Throw the walls up to approximately one and a half centimetres in thickness. Start shaping the pot by gently pushing the clay out, creating a bulbous form. Once satisfied, trim the base and set the pot aside for 24 to 48 hours to allow the clay to set to the leather hard stage<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the resting period, place the pot back on the wheel head for the trimming process. Utilise a clean tool to trim the outside of the pot, then use a carving tool to add a distinctive foot ring.
