Make sure the clay is firmly attached to the wheel head too<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Large bowls require more clay, but it\u2019s essential to use soft and malleable clay. This will make it easier to shape and pull the walls, you dont want to be wrestling with a large lump of clay haha<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Use the pottery wheel at a moderate speed. While it may be tempting to go fast, especially when you\u2019re used to smaller pieces, slower speeds provide more control for larger bowls, you also want to gradually pull the walls upward and outward. Start by pulling straight up, then gently widen the bowl by moving your hands outward. Repeat this process several times to achieve the desired size and shape<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Use rib tools to help shape and smooth the interior and exterior of the bowl. These tools are particularly useful for large pieces and can assist in achieving even thickness, When you\u2019re done shaping the bowl, use a wire cutter to release it from the wheel head. Be gentle to avoid warping the bowl in the process<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Wheel Throwing A Large Bowl Part 2 #wheelthrowing #clay #pottery #ceramics\" width=\"580\" height=\"326\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/39HrlJpbYTg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Leave for 24-4hrs and then trim the base, large bowls will actually dry out quicker so pay attention to the drying, we recommend coving it with a plastic bag&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Remember that creating large bowls on the pottery wheel may require some practice and patience. Start with smaller bowls and work your way up as you gain more experience and confidence. Each bowl you make will contribute to your skill development, and over time, you\u2019ll become more adept at working with larger clay masses.
