This is essential for a successful throwing experience, few slams on the bench will also help eliminate air bubbles and gives the clay some good compression<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Properly centre the clay on the wheelhead. This is the most crucial step for successful throwing. A well-centerered clay mound ensures even walls and symmetry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once centred, begin by pressing your thumbs or fingers into the centre of the clay to create an opening. Make sure the base is thick enough to support the walls. I usually aim for about a 9mm of thickness&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gradually widen the opening by pressing down and out, using your fingers and the heel of your hand if that helps. Keep the clay wet to reduce friction. Slowly lift the walls of the bowl using both hands, applying even pressure. Maintain a consistent thickness for the walls as you go. You also want to be giving the middle part of the bowl, some gradual pressure outwards to give you the same shape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now if your thinking of making a few of these, preparing 5-6 balls of clay before you start throwing will allow you to throw more at once, you can also get into a rhythm as well. Just make sure to have your clay balls, water, and tools within arm\u2019s reach. This minimises the time you spend looking for things during the process \ud83d\ude02<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you\u2019ve finished throwing your bowls, allow them to dry to a leather-hard state before trimming and finishing.
