We love how good these pots have turned out, they look beautiful in the spring sun too! \ud83e\udd29<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(Note: in this video we wiped the rims of the pots with water, this shouldn\u2019t have been in the video as we were trialling this technique out, which we seen on another platform that may help with adhesion on rims. We didn\u2019t see any difference. I wouldn\u2019t recommend using it even though it won\u2019t hurt. It\u2019ll just mean that your glaze may dry a little bit slower on the bisque application.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When you\u2019re doing your own glazing, make sure your bisque-fired pottery is free from dust, debris, or most importantly water. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(As a side note It\u2019s essential to test your glazes on small test tiles or sample pieces before applying them to your main pieces. This helps you see how the glaze will react to your clay and firing temperature, and it allows you to adjust your application techniques accordingly. Test pots are also a good idea too!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Glazing tips (part 2) see comments #glazing #glazingpottery #wheelthrown #handbuilt\" width=\"580\" height=\"326\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/5oGIUq1kBAk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>When glazing pottery, avoid getting glaze on the foot or bottom of the piece, as this can cause the piece to stick to the kiln shelf during firing. Use wax resist or glaze stoppers to prevent glaze from adhering to the foot. We use natural bees wax in a hot plate and apply it before glazing, we find the bees wax doesn\u2019t quite work as good as the paraffin wax but a natural product is always better then a chemical one \ud83d\ude04<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Make sure to stir your glazes VERY well to ensure they are thoroughly mixed and have a consistent texture. This prevents clumps and ensures even coverage. We recommend you use some sort of a high speed mixing such as a paint mixer on a speed drill \u263a\ufe0f<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maintain a glaze firing log to record your glaze recipes, application techniques, and firing results. This record will be valuable for replicating successful glaze finishes and troubleshooting any issues. You can either store these in notes or a online file system such as one drive or google drive<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can achieve beautiful effects by layering different glazes or applying them in specific ways. Experiment with techniques like dripping or painting to create unique patterns.
