By allowing the initial glaze to dry before applying overlays, the potter can mitigate these issue<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Benefits of Applying Overlay Glazes<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>1. Overlay glazes offer a unique opportunity to create multi-dimensional effects by layering different glaze finishes and colour combinations. This technique adds depth and richness to the final piece, making it visually captivating<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2. These different glaze finishes are achieved by adjusting the chemistry of the glaze recipe to enhance more depth of colour and create interesting variegation over texture<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Techniques for Applying Overlay Glazes<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3. Before applying an overlay glaze, allow the initial glaze to dry for up to 24 hours. This drying period allows the glaze to set and minimizes the risk of cracking or damage during the subsequent layering process<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4. It is best to let the bisque dry out. This helps prevent moisture from getting trapped between layers, which can lead to issues related to uneven drying<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>5. Mix the glaze thoroughly, this is an important step as you need to get all the ingredients suspended in the glaze batch, the gelling of materials in your glaze bucket, is normal this is not the same thing as hard panning<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>6. Consistent glaze thickness (short duration dip) across the entire area you\u2019re applying it to. This ensures even coverage and prevents potential issues like excessive glaze runs during the kiln firing process<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>7.
