Born in 1944 Maxwell Wilks started his studies in drawing at the National Gallery School in Victoria under John Brack and Ian Armstrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also studied at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in commercial design and oil painting with artist Shirley Bourne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His first exhibition was in 1967 and he has since held over 30 exhibitions in Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He exhibited in 1973 with the Seven Painters Group in Melbourne and in Adelaide in 1976 & 77.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1982, Wilks won the Alice Bale Travel scholarship, and for eight months he travelled throughout England and Europe visiting galleries, painting, and drawing regularly.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Also in 1982 Wilks began painting full time,Wilks main influences are the French Impressionists like Monet, Pissarro, Manet, and Sisley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He is also a member of the Twenty Melbourne Painters Society, a fellow of the Victoria Artist Society and a member of the Old Watercolor Society (AUS Branch).<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

He is represented in many collections in Australia and abroad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
