Using a Screwdriver to Apply a Texture To A Pot

Step 1: To begin, ensure your clay is well-compressed, this step provides strength to overall piece.

Step 2: Cut out two circular pieces of clay, which will be the core components of your vase. Then place these circles on a mould.

Step 3: Utilise a rubber kidney to evenly smooth and shape the clay on both halves.

Step 4: Take your screwdriver and begin applying intricate texture to the clay surface. Repeat this process for both halves, choosing to apply texture to all the vase or just to the top half the vase like we have.

Step 5: Using a clay knife, trim both halves, score and slip the edges, then bring the two halves together, creating a seamless connection. Pinch the seam to secure it and finish it off with your clay tools.

Step 6: Cut out four small feet from clay and securely attach them to the bottom of your vase using score and slip. Use your tools to ensure they are properly connected and stable.

Step 7: With a cookie cutter and a clay knife, cut a hole in the shoulder of the vase.

Step 8: For the neck of the vase, take a strip of clay and shape it to your desired size and form. Attach it to the vase securely, using your tools to refine the neck’s appearance.

Step 9: Use a damp sponge to clean up any imperfections. Lastly, use your finger to gently flare out the rim of the vase.

Step 10: After allowing your bowl to dry thoroughly, proceed to bisque fire it. Once the bisque firing is complete, apply your favourite glaze to achieve the desired colour and finish. Follow up with the glaze firing to complete your vase.

Step 11: With these steps complete, your art vase with intricate texture and unique design is now finished.

Happy Potting to you! 😀
