Use this simple trick to help create different effects on your pottery and add artistry to your glaze application, this is also good if certain glazes you have prefer a white clay background for the best colours to show 😊
How to Achieve Perfect Glaze Application:
Mixing: Ensure thorough mixing of your glazes before application. Earth materials in the glaze can settle at the bottom of the bucket, causing hard paning. Utilize a high-speed drill with a paint mixer attachment to reincorporate all materials into the glaze solution, ensuring consistency for dipping.
Dipping: Maintain a secure grip on your pottery piece while dipping it into the glaze. Any movement of your hand during dipping can result in uneven glaze application, with glaze sticking to the bisque. Keep a firm grip and swiftly withdraw the piece from the glaze, allowing it to dry on the greenware before releasing it from your hand
Glaze safety: Crafting our glazes in-house grants us full control over the ingredients, ensuring safety and quality. We meticulously formulate our glazes to eliminate any risk of toxic materials coming into contact with our skin. While many commercial glazes are safe to handle without gloves, it’s always wise to verify with your pottery supplier before direct skin contact.
Second Glaze Application: Experiment with various techniques for applying the second glaze. Whether using a brush, slip trailer, or re-dipping, find the method that suits your style. Personally, I prefer using a medium brush with a fine tip to fill bare greenware reservoirs with the second glaze, achieving precise and beautiful results.
Don’t forget to clean the walls of your bucket to keep down the mess once you are done!
