The sounds of making ceramics, the peacefulness you can get from making pottery can be so rewarding, this can be said for a lot of forms of art, from painting to sculpture, drawing to wood carving. Whatever art you practice, its the tranquility and calmness that can be so enjoyable
This particular vase was an experiment of mine to see if I could make a traditional shape from a wall of clay that had already been altered with decoration. The first time around i thought of leaving the walls straight, but midway through the process i knew I wanted to try something different
Bringing in the neck of a large vase such as this still takes me some time, other shapes and sizes I can do pretty quickly with ease, but this particular shape and size still requires a lot of my attention. Bring in the neck too quickly and you’ll risk having the wall gather in on itself, bring it in too slowly and you risk the walls getting too wet and collapsing
All in all I have to pay attention with this one haha
