Throwing From The Hump Part 2

Throwing from the hump for the first time was exciting and a great learning experience too!

Throwing from the hump enables the creation of several pieces in a single session, simplifying the process. Cutting them off the top of the clay hump and seamlessly moving on to the next piece was actually a really cool experience

I will say that before moving on to the next piece, using a heat gun to warm the clay allows you to pick it up from the mound without it deforming or warping too excessively but make sure to cut the wire through first and don’t try and pull it off lol 😂. After crafting each piece, it’s a good idea to cone the clay again. However, exercise caution, excessive water during this process can soften the clay leading to the base becoming overly wet!

I actually cut the wire through the base with about 3-4cm of thickness in the bottom so i could trim some deep foot rings. Well, this is not a necessity. You may find it to be a useful look and something you can try!

A key consideration is avoiding excessive water usage during the conning process, especially as you approach the base of the mound. This ensures that the clay retains its desired consistency and form throughout the throwing and shaping stages.

If you’re curious about the initial centering process, I recommend checking out my previous video for a comprehensive guide. The final result, as showcased in this demonstration, illustrates the outcome achievable with just a bit over a quarter of a bag of clay. You can efficiently produce a significant number pieces in a single session.

By all means comment below have any other further questions
