Sometimes you don’t have much of an idea about what design you want to do on the wheel.
A lot of the time you tend to go about the design as you go, letting the clay do the work for you. With this particular pot I didn’t quite know what I wanted, all I knew was that I had about 800 grams of clay and wanted to make something
I started out just throwing the walls up with a consistent thickness, Then after getting the wall to a reasonable height, I noticed the top edge bending outwards from the palms of my hands, then iI thought, why not do that?
Shaped the top to be a bit neater and Voula!!
In all seriousness though, its not always about what “shape” your going to throw today or trying a specific technique, what its comes down to is we all love to create, whether its on a pottery wheel or using our hands, its about the process and the enjoyment of making pottery, Thats what truly matters!
Go play around with some clay, make a mess, let your brain and hands do what it wants and most importantly have FUN! 🥳
We are having a exciting time here at the studio lately, we currently have a bisque kiln ready to fire and some brand new test glazes which are in the process of “marinating” so to speak in there test containers, we are excited to be dipping some test tiles soon and show you what we have!
As for the rest of the studio, winter is setting in here down in melbourne so our pots are taking a LOT longer to dry, some of the pieces we have, have been sitting on the drying rack for 3 or more weeks now 😬
so remeber to make sure your pots are all dry before you bisque!
Hope you enjoyed this update happy potting to you all! ☺️☺️
