So for todays tutorial ill be showing you how to make this oddly shaped art vase! The vase once fired will be around 20-25cms in height with highlights showing through the glaze from the texture added below
Additional tips not covered in the video:
1. Centre with both hands a squeeze: centring can be one of the hardest techniques to master when wheel throwing, especially if your clay is too hard, the best way to send is to squeeze with both hands as hard as you can towards the centre of the batt. Once the clay starts moving up towards you, you slowly bring your hands up, making sure not to pull the clay, your hands, and naturally move up with the rotation of the wheel.
2. Squeezing the walls: when you’re pulling the walls up with a throwing sponge, a lot of the time, the pot can actually get wider in its circumference you can combat this by squeezing the clay wall inward so that the pot is forced to go higher, and you also make the walls a little narrower
3. Distortion: distorting, the appearance of your perfectly thrown vars, can help bring out your artistic side, especially when wheel throwing. throwing can sometime very restricted, but actually it is one of the most artistic way you can create Pottery simply due to the fact that once the pot has been made to height, you can then play around with whatever shape or distortion or decoration you want to put on it
